Gamecocks Split Saturday Duals in Gulf Shores
The team has two more games on Sunday before heading home
GULF SHORES, ALA. – South Carolina (9-6) split its Saturday duals at the March to May Tournament. The Gamecocks opened the day with a 5-0 win over UAB (5-11) and fell to No. 4 Florida State (12-3), 5-0, in the afternoon.
Against the host Blazers in the morning, the Gamecocks used a big comeback on court four to build an early 2-0 lead. After dropping their first set, Abby Carroll and Peyton Gray went 21-17, 15-9 over the next two to complete the rally. Lauren Wilcock and Jordan Smith clinched the team win with a 21-13, 21-15 sweep on court two and Kaeli Crews and Hannah Mackenhausen capped the perfect score with a 21-19, 17-21, 15-13 win on court three.
In the afternoon against the Seminoles, South Carolina came just a handful of points away from grabbing a huge momentum swing early. The Gamecocks lost on court five by just four points, 21-19, 21-19, and Carroll and Gray went to a third set on court four but lost 17-15. Florida State rode that success into the second wave of matchups and swept each of the top three courts.

The Gamecocks have a pair of ranked opponents ahead of them on day three of the tournament. South Carolina faces No. 5 LSU at 11 a.m. ET and No. 20 Tulane at 3 p.m.
