No. 22 Gamecocks in 11th 36 Holes Into SEC Championship

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — No. 22 South Carolina is in 11^th place at 10-over through 36 holes of the 2022 SEC Championship. The Gamecocks shot a 4-over 284 in round two Thursday at Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course.
 
Carolina is 10 shots back of the eight-team cutline for match play and will likely need to post a red number to get into the top-eight tomorrow.
 
Freshman Nathan Franks moved into T-13^th with an impressive bogey free 67 today. He’s two-under and four shots back of leader Phichaksn Maichon of Texas A&M.
 
Senior All-American Ryan Hall is two-back of Maichon at 4-under after an even par 70 today. The Knoxville, Tenn., native was 3-under in round two but had bogeys on three of his final six holes.
 
Junior Rafe Reynolds battled and shot 72 (+2). He made a pair of birdies and was even coming in on the front nine. The Gamecocks started on hole 10 this morning.
 
Redshirt senior Evans Lewis was the final counting score with a 75 (+5). He made the turn at 1-over but shot 39 (+4) coming in and had two tough double bogeys on consecutive holes at four and five.
 
Freshman Gene Zeigler was inserted into the lineup last minute as junior Jack Wall, one of the team’s top players, pulled out of the tournament due to a wrist injury. Zeigler shot 76 (+6) in his SEC Championship debut.
 
South Carolina will tee off on hole 10 again at 9:20 a.m. (ET) on Friday with a match play berth on the line. The Gamecocks will be paired with No. 10 Arkansas again and Kentucky.
