SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Redshirt senior Evans Lewis opened with a first round 75 (+5) on Friday at the NCAA Championship. He’s T-82nd after 18 holes.
The Sumter, S.C., native made the turn at 3-over with a 38 on the front nine. He was even through five holes but then had a stretch of three bogeys in four holes.
Lewis rallied on the back with a pair of birdies but was hurt by a triple at the difficult par-4 14th hole. He turned in a 37 (+2) coming into the clubhouse.
“Evans played a pretty solid round but had a couple of bad breaks and a big number on hole 14,” said head coach Bill McDonald. “The golf course is playing pretty difficult and the pin positions were tough on just about every hole. He’s striking it really well, and I look for him to bounce back with something better tomorrow.”
An error was made when the initial tee times were released and Lewis will be off in the afternoon wave for round two alongside Oregon State’s Carson Barry and VCU’s Adrian Vagberg at 4:42 p.m. (ET) on Saturday.
Live scoring will be available again via Golfstat.
