Men’s Tennis Signs da Silva for 2022-23

Columbia, S.C. – Lucas da Silva of Brazil, has signed a financial aid agreement to attend the University of South Carolina and play men’s tennis for the Gamecocks, head coach Josh Goffi announced today. Da Silva will join the team this fall.

“We’re excited to have Lucas join the squad,” said Goffi. “He’s a young freshman for his age, but he has a big upside and we are eager to help him realize his potential.”

A product of the Weil Tennis Academy in Ojai, California, da Silva has worked his way through the ITF Junior Rankings. He lifted his 2020 year-end ranking of 2,157 to 1,218 by 2021 to sitting at a career-high 462 as of June 2022.

Da Silva recently captured back-to-back doubles titles on the ITF World Tour Juniors, winning both the J3 Coral Gables and the J3 Cancun. He followed that up with an appearance in the doubles semifinal at the J2 Cancun.

Da Silva has a current UTR of 12.44 in singles and 11.96 in doubles. He is currently ranked as the No. 31 Junior in the U.S.
