Women's Soccer Picked Third in SEC Preseason Poll

Birmingham, Ala. –  The No. 12 South Carolina women’s soccer team was picked to finish third in the SEC Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced on Tuesday (Aug. 16).

The Gamecocks were picked to finish behind Tennessee (No. 11 in the United Soccer Coaches preseason rankings), and Arkansas (No. 8) . South Carolina was followed by Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, Ole Miss (No. 18), LSU, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Missouri, and Florida.

The No. 12 ranked Gamecocks head into the 2022 season having advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals (the program’s ninth-straight tournament appearance), ending the 2021 year 14-7-1.  Fans will see 22 familiar and returning faces, in addition to 12 newcomers joining this fall. Head coach Shelley Smith will enter into her 22nd season with South Carolina, joined by Associate Head Coach Jamie Smith, and Assistant Coach Marnie Merritt.

South Carolina will open the season taking on the No. 1 ranked defending national champions Florida State in Stone Stadium at 7:00p.m.
