No. 4 Gamecocks Women's Soccer to Face UConn and Vermont

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 4 South Carolina women’s soccer team is set to hit the road for the first time this season to take on UConn and Vermont. The Gamecocks will face the Huskies on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 7:00 p.m. (EDT), followed by the Catamounts on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 2:00 p.m.

Last Time Out:

The Gamecocks head into Thursday’s match undefeated after taking down East Carolina 2-0 on Sunday, Aug. 21. The first goal of the season was tallied by freshman Shae O’Rourke (her career first) with an assist from fellow rookie Dru Drake. Sophomore Megan Spiehs kept things going for the Gamecocks, notching her first career goal in the 50th minute with an assist from Cat Berry to put South Carolina up over ECU, where they remained.

Senior goalkeeper Heather Hinz was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week for her performance over then-No. 1 Florida State and ECU; her second conference honor of her career.

Scouting UConn and Vermont:

The meeting between the Gamecocks and the Huskies on Thursday will  mark the first between the two teams. UConn heads into the game coming off a 6-0 shutout over Syracuse, and currently stands at 1-0-1 on the season.

Head coach Shelley Smith will head back to her alma mater of Vermont on Sunday, where the Catamounts currently sit at 1-1-0, most recently falling 1-3 to Merrimack. The game will mark also mark the first meeting between teams.
