Team sits just seven shots back heading into second round on Tuesday

LAKE ELMO, Minn. – No. 4 South Carolina is eighth after the open round of the 2022 ANNIKA Intercollegiate. The Gamecocks shot 295 (+7) in the first round and sit just seven shots back of second place.

Senior Mathilde Claisse paced Carolina with en even par 72 that has her in the top-10 on the individual leaderboard. The four-year starter had a trio of birdies at Royal Golf Club today. Sophomore All-American Hannah Darling shot 73 (+1). She was steady with a birdie and two bogeys on her scorecard in round one. Darling is T-15^th on the individual leaderboard.

The Gamecocks’ two newcomers in the lineup this week, freshman Mia Sandtorv Lussand and graduate transfer Katherine Muzi, were the final counting scores. Sandtorv Lussand shot 74 (+2) in her Carolina debut while Muzi shot 76 (+4). Both players made five birdies to lead the Gamecocks. Senior Justine Fournand also shot 76 (+4) with a pair of red numbers on her scorecard.

No. 10 Virginia was the only team to shoot under par in round one thanks to a bogey free 65 (-7) from Amanda Sambach, who leads by four shots over Texas’ Bohyun Park.

South Carolina will be paired with No. 7 Arizona State and No. 14 Florida for the second round on Tuesday. Fournand will lead things off again at 9:55 a.m. (ET) on hole ten. Live scoring will be available via Golfstat.
