South Carolina Eighth at Badger Invitational

Tournament has been shortened to 36 holes due inclement weather the first two days

MADISON, Wisc. – South Carolina shot 289 (+1) in the opening round of the Badger Invitational on Monday and sits in eighth place after 18 holes. The first round was moved to today because of rain on Sunday. Teams were supposed to play 36 holes today but more rain allowed for just 18.

The event has officially been shortened to 36 holes and the final round will take place tomorrow with weather conditions expected to be normal.

Fifth-year senior Evans Lewis and sopohomore Nathan Franks led the way the opening 18 holes with even par 72s. Lewis had four birdies on the back nine but was hurt by a bogey and a double at consecutive holes (16 and 17). Senior Rafe Reynolds also shot 72 (E). He had a strong final nine with four birdies en route to a 3-under 33.

Sophomore Gene Zeigler was the final counting score with a 73 (+1). He had an eagle and a birdie on his round one scorecard. Graduate transfer Zack Byers shot 77 (+5) in his Gamecock debut.

Freshman Zach Adams is competing in the Badger Inidivudal, which is taking place at Pleasant View Golf Course just down the road from University Ridge where Carolina is playing. He’s T-8^th at 7-over with rounds of 77 (+6) and 72 (+1).

Live scoring will be available again via Golfstat for the final round on Tuesday.

The Gamecocks will be paired with Ole Miss and host Wisconsin, with Byers the first player off at 9 a.m. (ET) on hole one.
