No. 4 South Carolina Finishes T-4th at ANNIKA Intercollegiate

Claisse and Darling both finish T-5th at 3-under to lead the Gamecocks in season opener

LAKE ELMO, Minn. – No. 4 South Carolina shot a final round 291 (+3) on Wednesday to T-4th in a strong field at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate. The Gamecocks posted a 54-hole total of 865 (+1). No. 2 Wake Forest shot 285 (-3) today to win by four shots over Texas at 6-under overall as a team for the tournament.

“We made a heck of a run today, but fell a little short,” said head coach Kalen Anderson. “Overall, our performance is a solid start to the year in an exceptionally strong field. We have an extremely talented group with an unlimited ceiling. Our process is just beginning.”

Senior Justine Fournand led the Gamecocks in round three with a 2-under 70. She was bogey free with a trio of birdies on the back nine.

Freshman Mia Sandtorv Lussand shot 73 (+1). She got off to a hot start with birdies on three of her first four holes. Sandtorv Lussand, a Bergan, Norway native, had a solid Gamecock debut this week with a T-19th finish at 3-over.

Graduate transfer Katherine Muzi and sophomore All-American Hannah Darling were the final counting scores with 2-over 74s. Senior Mathilde Claisse also shot 74 (+2). Her and Darling T-5th this week at 3-under to pace Carolina. It’s Claisse’s first career top-five finish and Darling’s sixth. Darling led the team with five top-five finishes as a freshman in 2021-22.

Amanada Sambach of Virginia held on for the wire-to-wire victory. She shot 207 (-9) to win by two shots over Texas’ Bohyun Park and Wake Forest’s Lauren Walsh.

South Carolina led the field in par-5 scoring average this week (4.67, -20) and birdies (57).

The Gamecocks will be back in action again at the Windy City Collegiate (Oct. 3-4) in Chicago.
