No. 7 Equestrian to Face No. 3 Texas A&M
BLYTHEWOOD, SC – The undefeated No. 7 South Carolina Equestrian team (3-0) will hit the road today for a top-10 matchup against the No. 3 ranked Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday, Oct. 8 at Noon (EST).
Last Time Out
South Carolina came out on top over then No. 7 Baylor 11-8 on Sept. 29 at home in Blythewood. Freshman Natalie Jayne earned two MOP honors on the day on the flat and in fences, tallying 88s in each event – the highest score so far this season in any discipline. Alexa Thorpe earned the nod in horsemanship, notching a 77 on Tulip to take the point for the Gamecocks.
Senior Maya Clarkson was named the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) and SEC Flat Rider of the Month. The NCEA award was the first for Clarkson in her career, and the second SEC nod. Clarkson has gone 3-0 on the season, earning one MOP distinction on the road at Delaware State (Sept. 23).
Scouting the Aggies
Texas A&M heads into the meet 2-1, most recently defeating UC Davis on the road 14-5. The Aggies started off the season with a 10-10 tie against then No. 3 TCU, but the win was awarded to the Horned Frogs based off raw scores.
The Aggies currently lead the series against South Carolina 25-12. In the last matchup, Texas A&M took the meet 12-7 (March 25, 2022).
