Gamecocks to Take on Volunteers in Knoxville

COLUMBIA, SC – No. 21 South Carolina women’s soccer (9-3-4) will hit the road to Knoxville to face No. 18 Tennessee (10-3-2) in a Top-25 matchup on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 1:00 p.m. (EST). The game will be broadcasted live on SEC Network+.

Last Time Out

South Carolina faced Texas A&M on Thursday, ending things in a 1-1 draw with the Aggies.

At the 20 minute mark, Texas A&M got on the board after Mia Pante sent a serve to Quinn Cornog, who then deflected it off a South Carolina defender. The Gamecocks went on to take two more shots but headed into the half down by one. 

14 minutes into the second period, a gorgeous pass up the left side from Barry set up sophomore Payton Patrick for success 1-v-1 against Aggie goalkeeper Kenna Caldwell, tying things up 1-1 with 30 minutes to go. The goal marked the second of the season for Patrick, and the third assist for Barry. 

Scouting the Volunteers

Sunday’s meeting with Tennessee will be the 28th in program history. The Volunteers currently hold the series at 14-10-3, but the Gamecocks have taken a 6-3-1 advantage in the last 10 meetings.

Tennessee currently stands at 6-1-1 in conference play, most recently defeating Auburn on the road 1-0. Freshman Kameron Simmonds scored the only goal of the match, finding the net in the 74th minute. With the win over Auburn, Tennessee completed its SEC away schedule with a perfect 5-0 record while only giving up two goals.
