Gamecocks Third, Zeigler Leads by Six at Daniel Island

CHARLESTON, S.C. – South Carolina shot a field-best 290 (+2) on Monday to move into third place after 36 holes of the Daniel Island Intercollegiate. Sophomore Gene Zeigler surged into the lead by six shots thanks to a 4-under 68.

The Florence, S.C., native pumped in six birdies on the day. He’s the only player in the 104-man field to post a red number through the 36 holes as scoring has been tough at Daniel Island Golf Club’s Ralston Course. Zeigler has one top-20 in his brief Gamecock career and will be seeking his first career victory in Garnet & Black on Tuesday.

Freshman Zach Adams had a solid day and moved into the top-20 with a 1-over 73. He made a pair of birdies and sits T-15^th at 5-over.

Fifth-year senior Evans Lewis and sophomore Nathan Franks were the final counting scores with round two 74s (+2). Graduate transfer Zack Byers shot 75 (+3) and sophomore Mason Tucker, who is playing as an individual this week, shot 78 (+6).
