Gamecocks Fall to Auburn in SEC Semis
BLYTHEWOOD, SC – The No. 4 seed South Carolina Equestrian team (5-7, 1-6) faced the No. 1 seed Auburn Tigers (10-2, 5-1) in the semifinals of the SEC Equestrian Championship on Friday, ultimately falling 13-7. South Carolina saw MOP awards from Madeline Schaefer in Fences, and Haley Turner in Reining.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FENCES
The Gamecocks saw a tight battle in the event, with Auburn edging out 3-2. Madeline Schaefer took her point on Perry, outscoring Ava Stearns 258-248. Natalie Jayne followed suit on Leon, scoring a 251 to defeat Mary-Grace Seagars’ 238.
FLAT
The Tigers pulled out 3-2 in the event, with Schaefer again securing her point on Granite 247-232 over Mary Grace Seagars. Jayne rounded out the points, with her 257 on Una taking down Sophee Steckbeck’s 208.
HORSEMANSHIP
Auburn took things 4-1, with Alexa Thorpe taking the sole point for the Gamecocks. Her 215.5 on Vaquero was enough to defeat Madison Parduhn’s 176.
REINING
Chloe Stephenson took her point on Slash, topping Caroline Buchanan 206.5-204.5 Haley Turner earned an MOP honor with her ride on Colonel, taking down Kate Buchanan 207-201.5
