Carolina notches third runner-up finish of season, team finishes in top-five of all seven of its stroke play events this season

ATHENS, Ga. – The final round of the 2023 Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic was cancelled on Sunday due to heavy rain and thunderstorms, thus shortening the tournament to 36 holes. The fourth-ranked Gamecocks finished second in the 15-team field.

Sophomore All-American Louise Rydqvist had a career-best, runner-up finish. It marked her first top-five of the season and the third of her career in 15 starts. Fellow sophomore All-American Hannah Darling, who will compete in next week’s Augusta National Women’s Amateur for the second consecutive year, added another top-10 to her resume this week. It marks her fifth top-10 in seven stroke play starts this season. It’s the 12th of her career in 18 events played.

Senior Justine Fournand, who played as an individual the past two days, also notched a top-20 finish this week. It marks her second top-20 of the season and 15th of her career in 32 stroke play starts.

The Gamecocks’ runner-up finish was the team’s third of the season. South Carolina has finished in the top-five in all seven of its stroke play events this season. The Gamecocks will wrap-up the regular season at the Wolfpack Match Play (April 3-4), looking to defend another team title from last season.
