Carolina shot 1-under 287 in Sunday's opening round
AWENDAW, S.C. – South Carolina is in 10th after the opening 18 holes of the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate on Sunday. The Gamecocks shot 287 (-1) with under par rounds from transfer Lansdon Robbins and fifth-year senior Evans Lewis.
Robbins shot 70 (-2) and was bogey free until a five at the par-4 18th hole. Lewis shot 71 (-1) and made a team-high four birdies. Sophomore Nathan Franks and junior Rafe Reynolds were the final counting scores with 1-over 73s. Freshman Zach Adams shot 73 (+1). Sophomore Gene Zeigler, who is playing as an individual this week, shot 76 (+4).
East Tennessee State posted the round of the day with a 19-under 269. They lead by five shots over Purdue. Five players are tied for the individual lead with opening round, 6-under 66s.
The Gamecocks will be paired with VCU and West Virginia on Monday for the second round. Adams will lead things off at 9:54 a.m. (ET) on hole 10.
