South Carolina will go on its first foreign trip since 2016 in Costa Rica
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina men’s basketball will take its first foreign trip since 2016 in August as the team heads south to the Bahamas. The Gamecocks will be on the island from Aug. 3-8, playing a pair of games against teams from Lithuania and Argentina.
“I’m really excited about our trip to the Bahamas,” said head coach Lamont Paris. “By NCAA rules, you’re afforded 10 full practices in preparation. The benefits from those practices are tremendous. Beyond that, the team bonding that takes place in this type of environment is immeasurable. From traveling and enjoying time with your new teammates to the competition aspect to the interaction between players and coaches in a completely different setting – it’s fantastic. We are very fortunate to take advantage of this opportunity and grateful that our institution supports us in providing these types of experiences for our student-athletes.”
The team will stay at Atlantis Resort and play its games on-site.
Foreign trips during the summer are allowed every four seasons. The last preseason foreign trip the Gamecocks went on was to Costa Rica in August of 2016. Carolina played a pair of games against the Costa Rica National Team.
