Barry Named to MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List
KANSAS CITY, MO – United Soccer Coaches announced the 56 NCAA Women’s Division I college soccer players named to the 2023 Hermann Trophy Watch List on Thursday, with senior forward Cat Barry named to the group.
The Hermann Trophy, presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club, is the nation’s highest individual honor recognizing the National Player of the Year as determined by the voting of Division I coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches.
Barry has been a standout player for the Gamecocks, leading the team in goals, points, shots, and shots on goal for three straight seasons. In 2022, Barry finished the season ranked 50th in the country and fourth in the SEC with 10 goals, the ninth most in a season for a Gamecock. She came in fifth in the nation for game-winning goals (6), which was the second most in a season at South Carolina. Barry has started in 55 of 58 games of her career, including all 24 last season.
The senior is a two-time SEC All-Tournament Team selection, five-time player of the week, and was selected to the All-SEC First and SEC All-Freshman teams. Heading into the fall, Barry was named to the SEC Preseason Watchlist for the second time in her career, and came in at No. 56 in the TopDrawerSoccer top-100 preseason rankings (a jump from her previous rank of No. 87).
Barry and the rest of the No. 12 ranked Gamecocks will open the 2023 season on the road at No. 25 Clemson, Thursday Aug. 17 at 7:00 p.m.
