COLUMBIA, SC – The 13th-ranked South Carolina Women’s Soccer team (3-0-1) is set to take on Elon (1-0-2) and Coastal Carolina (2-1-0) to open up a five-game home stand in Stone Stadium. The Gamecocks will face the Phoenix on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 7:00 pm, followed by the Chanticleers on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 6:00 pm. Both games will be streamed on SECN+.

LAST TIME OUT

The Gamecocks took a trip up to New England this past week, taking on Boston College and UMass Lowell. South Carolina battled Boston College for a 3-2 win, with a penalty kick coming from Cam Dixon and the game-winner resulting from Catherine Barry’s goal in the first 45 seconds of the second half.

Against the River Hawks, rookie Reagan Schubach tallied her first career game-winner in the 37th minute, marking her third goal of the season, which leads the team. Junior Lily Render sealed the deal with her second career goal in the 67th minute, giving the Gamecocks a 2-0 victory. The shutout was the third this season, and the 24th of fifth-year keeper Heather Hinz’s career.

SCOUTING THE PHOENIX

Thursday’s meeting with the Phoenix will be just the second all-time, and the first at home. The Gamecocks last saw Elon in March of 2021, and secured a 3-0 win on the road. The Phoenix last played Longwood, ending in a 0-0 draw. Elon however put up six goals in its first two matches, seeing scoring this year from Gabby Hoschek (3), Rachel Bucklem Ashlee Brehio, and Lauren McCauley.

SCOUTING THE CHANTICLEERS

South Carolina will face Coastal Carolina on Sunday for the fourth time in program history, with all matches having occurred at home. The Gamecocks currently lead the series 4-0-0, and last saw the Chanticleers in March of 2021, winning that battle 3-0.

Coastal Carolina most recently faced Charlotte at home, falling 0-3. In their season opener, the team secured a 1-0 win over UNCW after Emily Petring connected on a penalty kick in the 68th minute.
