Gamecocks Drop Road Match to Tigers

CLEMSON, S.C. – The South Carolina men’s soccer team (0-2-1) dropped their Palmetto Series match presented by the SC Education Lottery Friday night (Sept. 1) 2-0 at Clemson (1-1-1).

For the match, the Tigers held a 10-7 advantage in shots and 5-1 in shots on goal. Ben Alexander finished with three saves for the Gamecocks in net. Ethan Dekel Daks and Rocky Perez led the way with two shots apiece.

Carolina out-shot the Tigers in the first half 5-4, but it was Clemson who went out in front, scoring the eventual game-winner in the 24th minute on a shot from just outside the 18-yard box. The Tigers tacked on another in the 82nd minute off a corner kick that was loose inside the box.

South Carolina’s lone shot on goal of the match came in the 65th minute by Perez, but the Tiger goalkeeper made a diving save.

The Gamecocks return home to host UNCW September 5 at 7 p.m.
