COLUMBIA, SC – The 10th-ranked South Carolina women’s soccer team (5-0-1) is set to face No. 3 North Carolina (4-0-2) at home in Stone Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 7:00 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPNU, and will be the 48th top-10 matchup in program history.

The Gamecocks took on Coastal Carolina on Sunday (Sept. 3), tallying their fifth clean sheet of the season after defeating the Chanticleers 5-0 in front of a crowd of over 4,600. South Carolina saw goals from four different scorers, including Shae O’Rourke, Lily Render, rookie Bri Pinasco (the first of her career), and two from Cat Barry.

Barry matched her career high of 10 shots in a game, and six of her team’s 15 SOGs. The senior also moved to the No. 4 spot in the record books for career shots at 207, passing Kayla Grimsley (2088-11) at 203. South Carolina finished with a 27-0 shot advantage, and has now outscored its opponents 18-2.

Thursday’s meeting with North Carolina will be the sixth in program history, with the Gamecocks holding the series at 3-2-0. South Carolina last faced UNC on Nov. 13, 2021, in Chapel Hill during the first round of the NCAA Tournament where the Gamecocks upset the No. 10 Tar Heels 1-0 to advance to the Round of 32.

North Carolina last faced No. 8 Arkansas at home, taking down the Razorbacks 3-1 after overcoming a 1-0 deficit. The Tar Heels tied things up late in the first half after a goal from Mia Oliaro (Bella Semer) at the 40-minute mark, and scored two more unanswered goals in the second from Ally Sentor and Avery Patterson (Evelyn Shores). North Carolina currently holds a five-way tie for most individual goals (2), with Tori Dellaperuta, Melina Rebimbas, Sentnor, Shores and Patterson on the list.
