No. 7 Ranked Women's Soccer Heads to First SEC Road Trip
COLUMBIA, SC – The No. 7 South Carolina women’s soccer team (7-1-1) is ready to hit the road for the first time in SEC play this season, facing Kentucky (6-0-2) on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. The game will be streamed on SECN+.
LAST TIME OUT
No. 9 South Carolina opened up SEC play at home, securing a 3-1 win over Vanderbilt in front of a crowd of over 5,000. The Gamecocks scored all three goals within the first 20 minutes of the first half and held the Commodores to just seven shots throughout the game.
Megan Spiehs got South Carolina on the board first after knocking one it on off an incredible volley in the ninth minute – noteworthy enough to be in the No. 2 spot on Sports Central Top-10 the following day. It was her first goal of the season and the fourth of her career.
Corinna Zullo tallied the game-winner a few short minutes later off a huge pass from Cat Barry, also her notching her first goal of the year and lucky No. 13 of her career. Shae O’Rourke then sealed the deal in the 19th minute for South Carolina, capitalizing on a turnover by the Commodores just outside the 18.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Thursday’s meeting with Kentucky will be the 29th in program history, dating back to 1995. The Gamecocks currently lead the series 14-12-1, and have won the last eight consecutive matches. South Carolina last saw Kentucky at home in 2022, tallying a 1-0 win over the Wildcats.
Kentucky last faced Texas A&M on the road, ending in a 1-1 draw with the Aggies. The Wildcats have a top scorer in Jordyn Rhodes with seven goals under her belt, leading her team with 14 points.
