Hoole Comes Up Just Short of Main Draw

Tulsa, Okla. – South Carolina men’s tennis junior Casey Hoole and freshman Sean Daryabeigi completed play at the ITA All-American Championships on Tuesday.

No. 59 Hoole, played in the second round of the qualifying draw where he faced Columbia’s Nicolas Kotzen. The Gamecock was dominant, nearly shutting Kotzen out in a 6-1, 6-0 victory.

From there, Hoole advanced to the third round of qualifying where he played No. 79 Mangus Johnson of Florida. The first set was close and needed a tiebreak for the decision. The breaker was also a close one, where the two competitors battled it out until Johnson came out of top 10-8. In the second set, play was again close but Johnson was the only one to claim a break, winning the set 6-4.

In the qualifying consolation, Daryabeigi faced Texas A&M’s Togan Tokac. The Aggie claimed the first set but Daryabeigi battled back to take the next two 6-3, 6-3.

Hoole’s loss marks the end of South Carolina’s stay in the All-American Championships. The Gamecocks will see action next at the ITA Carolina Regional Championships Oct. 20-24 in Cary, N.C.
