No. 6 Gamecocks Fall to No. 2 Stanford in Third-Place Match at Stephens Cup

DALLAS, Texas – No. 6 South Carolina fell 4-1 to No. 2 Stanford in the third-place match of the Stephens Cup on Wednesday at Trinity Forest Golf Club. Junior All-American posted the lone win for the Gamecocks in dominant finish with a 6&4 victory.

The Cardinal put the first two points on the board before Rydqvist’s win.

Carolina then needed wins from freshman Maylis Lamoure and sophomore Mia Sandtorv Lussand in the two anchor matches. Lamoure tied her match with a win at hole 14 but Megha Ganne won the 16^th hole and prevailed 1-up.

After trailing by three, Sandtorv Lussand pulled back within one with a birdie at 15. Stanford’s Paula Martin Sampedro iced a 2&1 victory however with a birdie at 17.

The Gamecocks conclude the fall with a win and a trio of top-five finishes playing against some of the best competition in the country. The team will be back in action in early February with a two-week road trip out west for the Therese Hession Regional Challenge (Feb. 4-6) and the San Diego State Classic (Feb. 12-13).
