No. 17 South Carolina Picks Up Road Win Over Texas A&M
COLLEGE STATION, TX – The No. 17 South Carolina women’s soccer team (10-1-5, 4-0-4) picked up an SEC road win Thursday night, defeating Texas A&M (7-6-3, 3-3-2) 1-0.
The Gamecocks’ offense got off to a good start, controlling possession and taking their first corner of the game at the 14-minute mark. Micah Bryant got the first shot on goal off for South Carolina in the 18th, leading to the second corner of the night. After three more shots and an additional two corners, sophomore defender Gracie Falla positioned herself right outside the far left of the night and capitalized on Lily Render’s serve, shouldering it in to put the Gamecocks on top 1-0 in the 42nd minute. It was the first goal of Falla’s career.
The second half saw four more shots and two corners from South Carolina, but none connected. Defense was the name of the game for the final 45, as fifth-year keeper Heather Hinz tallied seven saves in just the second half, finishing the night with a season-high of nine. Hinz also recorded her 29th career shutout, moving her to the No. 3 spot in the record books, tying with previous great Sabrina D’Angelo (2011-14).
