Gamecocks Keep Momentum Rolling at Regional Championships

Cary, N.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis completed its second day of action at the Carolina Regional Championship with the team accounting for seven wins on the day.

In singles play, four Gamecocks played in the round of 32 with three of them advancing. Sophomore Lucas Andrade da Silva booked his spot in the round of 16 after downing Wake Forest’s Luciano Tacchi in a three-set comeback. The Demon Deacon claimed the first set 6-2 and the second set was tight was close with a tiebreak being needed for the decision. Da Silva came out on top of the lengthy breaker 10-8 and went on to take the deciding set 6-3 for the win.

Freshman Sean Daryabeigi and junior Casey Hoole both also advanced to the round of 16 with both claiming straight set wins. Daryabeigi took down Saud Alhogbani of Wake Forest while No. 59 Hoole bested South Carolina State’s Aissa Benchakroun.

In doubles, both of South Carolina’s pairs claimed two wins on the day to make it to the round of 16. Da Silva and freshman Jelani Sarr paired up to defeat Davis Mamalat and Pedro Cardoso of Presbyterian College 8-2 before topping Elon’s Juan Sengariz and Ben Zipay 8-5.

Hoole paired up with senior Carter Morgan and together the two took down Ian Pedersen and Mathieu Dussaubat of North Carolina A&T 8-1 before claiming their second win of the day over Daniel Clivio and Will Fullet of Wofford 8-4.

Rounds of 16 at the Carolina Regional Championships will continue on Sunday with both doubles and singles play. Draws and results will be available on the tournament webpage.
