Gamecocks Fall in Quarterfinals of SEC Tournament

PENSACOLA, FL – The No. 16 ranked and three-seeded South Carolina women’s soccer team (11-2-6) fell to six-seed Texas A&M on Tuesday, 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament.

The first half was a possession battle between the Gamecocks and the Aggies, with South Carolina’s offense making the first moves after four separate Carolina players got shots on the board in the first 20 minutes. Fifth-year keeper Heather Hinz tallied a major save in the 38th minute to keep Texas A&M off the board.

In the second half, South Carolina made two more shots and took two corners through 30 minutes. In the 78th, Texas A&M’s Sydney Becerra took advantage of a cluster in front of the net, putting the Aggies up 1-0 late. The Gamecocks took three more chances (one on goal), but were unable to find the equalizer. Catherine Barry, Shae O’Rourke and Brianna Behm led with two shots each. Hinz finished the night with four saves.

South Carolina will await its fate in the NCAA Tournament. The Selection Show is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 6.
