Harris Wins Daniel Intercollegiate, Gamecocks Finish Fourth

Redshirt sophomore picks up first career victory with 54-hole total of 209 (-7) thanks to three straight red numbers

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Redshirt sophomore transfer Frankie Harris picked up his first collegiate win on Tuesday at the Daniel Island Intercollegiate. Trailing by two shots heading into the final round today, Harris shot 70 (-2) with a trio of birdies in round three.

The Boca Raton, Fla., native, who transferred in from Auburn this season, had 11 birdies and just four bogeys over the course of 54 holes. It’s the second straight year a Gamecock has taken home the individual crown at the Daniel Island Intercollegiate as Gene Zeigler picked up his first college win at the event last fall.

As a team, Carolina shot 290 (+2) today and finished fourth with a 5-under total of 859. Middle Tennessee State held on for the wire-to-wire win with a 54-hole total of 854 (-10).

Senior Rafe Reynolds returned to the lineup this week and put together a nice tournament with a T-4^th finish at 5-under. The Greenville, S.C., native shot 72 (E) in the final today with a pair of birdies. Junior Nathan Franks and sophomore Zach Adams were the final counting scores with 2-over 74s today. Junior transfer Laurens Schulze-Doering, who entered the day T-78^th at 11-over, was DQ’d for signing an incorrect scorecard today.

Freshman Bo Carpenter played as an individual this week. He shot 77 (+5) and finished T-65^th at 12-over for the tournament.

The tournament concludes the fall portion of the team’s schedule. The Gamecocks will open the spring in a strong field at the Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 11-13).
