Jordan Illian Named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week
NEW ORLEANS – South Carolina men’s soccer freshman Jordan Illian was named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league today (Oct. 31).
Illian earns Carolina’s third player of the Week honor, joining Ben Alexander (defensive) and Ethan Dekel Daks (offensive). It’s the first time since 2016 that the Gamecocks have had three different players named conference Player of the Week.
He helped Carolina take down in-state rival Costal Carolina 4-3 Friday night (Oct. 27) for the first time since 2015. Illian finished with two goals and an assist, including the game-winner with 33 seconds left in the match. Illian also scored in the 58th minute to break a 1-1 tie and assisted on Damola Salami’s goal in the 73rd minute.
The brace was Illian’s first of his career and the first by a Gamecock freshman since Mike Lindsay against Kentucky on Nov. 9, 2007. His five-point night was the first by a Carolina player since Jeffrey Torda at UAB on Nov. 3, 2013.
The Gamecocks are on the road tonight to take on No. 6 Marshall at 7:15 p.m.
