No. 7 Gamecocks Defeat No. 6 Oklahoma State

BLYTHEWOOD, SC – The seventh-ranked South Carolina Equestrian team (5-3, 0-3) upset the sixth-ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls (2-4) 12-8 on Friday at home at One Wood Farm. It was the third top-10 win for the Gamecocks this fall, and the first upset of the season. The win over OSU marked the first since 2017.

FLAT

The Gamecocks swept the Cowgirls 5-0 in the event, seeing points from Ellie Beard (80-71 on Tanner), Natalie Jayne (81-63 on Lenny), Sophie Mitchell (84-71), Sarah Rabb (81-71 on Joe), and Mary Hunter Millet (78-69 on Murphy). South Carolina defeated OSU by an impressive average of nearly 12 points, and Sophie Mitchell picked up her third MOP of the season for her ride.

HORSEMANSHIP

OSU got things started by taking the first two points over Ruby Voortmeyer and Alyssa Jipping, but Tierney Horton responded with her 72.5-71.5 win on Chubby, followed by Jenna Berghorst’s 72.5-71 win on Paddy to even the playing field. Fifth-year senior Kiersten Beckner then fell in a tight battle on Tulip, 72.5-74 against Maddie Fussell.

FENCES

Fifth-year and co-captain Jordan Allen got the points going in Fences for the Gamecocks, taking down Grace McReynolds 89-80 on Dento. Bella Primavera secured her first collegiate point on Dexter, defeating Bella Holway 82-81 on Dexter For her ride, Allen nabbed her fifth MOP of the season in the event. The Cowgirls took the remaining three points to edge out the Gamecocks in Fences.

REINING

South Carolina secured the meet in Reining, with the Gamecocks taking the event 3-2 over OSU. Points were earned by co-captain Emilia Reutimann (69-66 on Stoner), Emma Lane (70-68.5 on Chexie), and Mattie McNeill (70-69.5 on Paddy). Lane picked up her second MOP in a row for her ride, and her second win of the season.

The Gamecocks will return in the new year, taking on Auburn at home on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 1:00 p.m.
