Sarr Records Top-20 Upset
Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis completed its second day of action at the Gamecock Kickoff with freshman Jelani Sarr recording the first Top-20 win of his career.
Sarr battled against No. 17 Kenta Miyoshi of Illinois where he looked strong against his higher-ranked counterpart. The Gamecock freshman took the first set 6-3 and came back to claim the second 6-4 for the win. Sarr now has a total of four ranked wins on his resume with this one being the highest.
He was the only Gamecock to record a win on the day with Sean Daryabeigi falling to No. 46 Hunter Heck, Lucas Andrade da Silva falling to No. 55 Karlis Ozolins and Carter Morgan falling in three sets to Will Mroz.
Doubles also didn’t go in the Gamecocks favor with both of South Carolina’s pairs falling.
The Gamecock Kickoff will conclude on Sunday with one round of singles and one round of doubles. South Carolina will play doubles at approximately 11:00 a.m. with singles scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. Fans not in attendance can view live streaming here.
