Fulwiley Named SEC co-Freshman of the Week
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s basketball guard MiLaysia Fulwiley was named SEC co-Freshman of the Week for her role in the Gamecocks’ 35-point win at Texas A&M last week, the league office announced today. Fulwiley shares the honor with LSU’s Mikaylah Williams.
Fulwiley led South Carolina in scoring in its lone game this week, posting her first career 20-point game with 21 at Texas A&M, playing just 20 minutes. Her points came on efficient shooting, hitting 8-of-12 from the field (.667) and 3-of-5 from 3-point range. In the second quarter, she was a perfect 5-of-5, including three 3s, with eight of her 13 points in the period coming in the Gamecocks’ 12-2 run that closed the half. Those 13 points matched the team’s season high for points in a quarter. With teammates scoring six points off her three assists – two being SportsCenter-worthy – Fulwiley had her hands on 27.3 percent of the Gamecocks’ offense against the Aggies.
On the season, Fulwiley is third on the team in scoring at 11.7 points per game on 48.1 percent shooting and is 13th in the SEC with 1.1 blocks per game. In SEC games, her shooting percentage rises to 50.0 percent, including 40.0 percent (6-of-15) from 3- point range.
