No. 6 Gamecocks Win Again at San Diego State Classic

Team earns third victory of season and second straight win out west in California on Tuesday

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – No. 6 South Carolina held on at the San Diego State Classic down the stretch en route to the team’s second-straight win (third victory this season) on Tuesday. The Gamecocks shot 296 (+8) in the final round to win by a shot over No. 25 Virginia.

Junior All-American Hannah Darling paced Carolina in round three with a 1-under 71 on another tough scoring day at The Farms Golf Club. Darling climbed 17 spots on the leaderboard to finish inside the top-15.

Fellow junior All-American Louise Rydqvist carded a 2-over 74 as she paced the team this week with a fourth-place finish at 2-under for the tournament. She was one of just five players in the 63-women field to break par.

Freshman Vairana Heck and sophomore Mia Sandtorv Lussand each finished T-10^th at 7-over par. Sophomore Sophia Burnett was the final counting score today with a 76 (+4). She finished the tournament T-32^nd.

The Gamecocks return home and will be off until March 4-6 when the team host the greatest show in women’s college golf, the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. This year marks the 12^th edition of the prestigious event and the third consecutive year Golf Channel will provide full coverage from each round. For more information on the event, click here.
