No. 5 Gamecocks T-5th With No. 4 LSU at Darius

Travis Bell/Sideline Carolina

Carolina remains in the hunt at Long Cove ; All-American Hannah Darling goes low Tuesday with 5-under 66

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – No. 5 South Carolina is T-5th with No. 4 LSU after 36 holes of the 2024 Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. The Gamecocks shot 290 (+6) on another difficult scoring day at Long Cove Club’s tricky Pete Dye design. No. 12 Northwestern, who has a one-shot lead in the team race over No. 20 Arizona State at 5-under, and No. 11 Auburn were the only teams to post a red number in round two Tuesday.

Junior All-American Hannah Darling jolted 36 spots up the leaderboard as she fired a 5-under 66 to pace Carolina. The Midlothian, Scotland, native was sizzling down the stretch with five birdies in her final seven holes. The team started on the back nine today. Darling made the turn at even after bogeys at 17 and 18, but she came into the clubhouse with a 31 (-5) on the back nine thanks to elite ball striking and putting.

Darling, Texas’ Farah O’Keefe and LSU’s Ingrid Lindblad are all T-2nd at 4-under for the tournament. They sit two shots back of Arizona State’s Grace Summerhays who has the 36-hole individual lead at 6-under thanks to a pair of 68s the opening two days of play.

Junior All-American Louise Rydqvist shot 72 (+1) with a trio of birdies. Freshman Vairana Heck (75, +4) and senior Sophie Burnett (77, +6) were the final counting scores. Freshman Maylis Lamour shot 78 (+7). Sophomore Mia Sandtorv Lussand, who is playing as an individual this week, had a nice round as she shot 69 (-5) with five birdies.

Only three teams sit under par after 36 holes with a handful of others, including Carolina, still within striking distance with a strong day on Wednesday.

Inclement weather is expected to play an issue for the final round with early morning rains moving into The Lowcountry overnight. The forecast is expected to clear mid-morning but the potential for scattered thunderstorms lingers for most of the day.

Golf Channel will again be providing live TV coverage of the broadcast from 2:30-5:30 p.m. (ET) with a replay airing later in the evening.
