Franks, Gamecocks Go Low in R2 of Schenkel Invitational

Junior from Roebuck, S.C. fired a 66 (-6) and sits one back of the lead after 36 holes

STATESBORO, Ga. – South Carolina went low on moving day at the Schenkel Invitaitonal on Saturday with a 13-under 275 in the second round. All four counters fired red numbers led by junior Nathan Franks, who shot 66 (-6) and sits one back of the individual lead.

The Roebuck, S.C., native made nine birdies with a stretch of four-straight red numbers from holes nine thru 12. Franks’ 15 birdies the opening 36 holes are second in the field only to Wisconsin’s Daniel Aas.

Freshman Bo Carpenter put together a nice round with a 4-under 68. He was 2-over thru six holes then made six birdies coming into the clubhouse, including a stretch of three-straight red numbers on holes 12 thru 14.

Sophomore Zach Adams shot 70 (-2) with four birdies on his scorecard. Sophomore transfer Frankie Harris was the final counting score as he shot 71 (-1) with a pair of eagles on his scorecard. Sixth-year Lansdon Robbins and junior transfer Laurens Schulze-Doering, who is playing as an individual this week, each shot 72 (E).

In the team race, No. 17 Florida, the defending NCAA Champions, sit atop the leaderboard at 22-under as a team. Notre Dame posted the round of the day with a 14-under 274 to move into second place, three shots back of the Gators. Carolina sits just one shot back of cracking the top five.

The Gamecocks will be paired with Kentucky and Florida Gulf Coast for the final round on Sunday. Robbins will be the first player off for the Gamecocks at 8:30 p.m. (ET) from hole one.
