Men’s Tennis Falls at Auburn

Auburn, Ala. – No. 16 South Carolina men’s tennis fell 1-4 at Auburn on Sunday, wrapping up a three-match stint on the road. The Gamecocks were only able to claim one doubles victory and one singles victory in the loss.

In doubles, the Gamecocks win came from James Story and Lucas Andrade da Silva defeating Billy Blaydes and Alejandro Moreno 6-2 at the second spot in the lineup but the Tigers were quick to even things with a 6-3 win at the No. 3 position.

The decision came down to Court 1 where No. 10 Toby Samuel and Casey Hoole were facing Raul Dobai and Finn Murgett. The match was even throughout but the Tigers claimed a late break to win it 7-5, clinching the doubles point.

In singles play, South Carolina evened things up quickly with No. 49 Samuel defeating No. 40 Tyler Stice 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 1 position. Unfortunately for the Gamecocks, it was the only singles victory they were able to record with the Tigers claiming wins on Courts 5, 4, and 2 to clinch the match.

The men’s tennis team will return home for its next match, hosting Mississippi State and Ole Miss March 22 and 24. Friday’s match will take place at 5:00 p.m. with Sunday’s at noon.
