Gamecocks Ready to Take on Aggies in SEC Semifinals

COLLEGE STATION, TX – The No. 6 ranked and fourth-seed South Carolina Equestrian team (7-6) is set to take on Texas A&M (8-3) for the semifinals of the SEC Equestrian Championships. The meet will take place on Friday, Mar. 29 at 4:00 p.m. on SECN+.

The Gamecocks rounded out the regular season with a 15-3 win over SDSU, sweeping all four available Most Oustanding Performer (MOP) awards on the day.

South Carolina first saw an MOP from Sophie Johnson on the Flat after she secured her 93-87 win on Lenny, marking the highest score on the Flat this season and the second-highest score in program history. Mattie McNeill followed suit in Reining, putting up the first point of the day in the event and grabbing her second MOP of the season with her 70.5-67 win on Chexie.

In the second half, Alexa Aureliano secured her MOP in Fences with an 87-0 win on Schnitzel, followed by Tierney Horton’s point on Z (67-52) in Horsemanship. Horton’s point helped the Gamecocks sweep the event for the first time this season.

Friday’s meet will be the third this season, and the 42nd all-time. The Aggies lead the overall series 29-12, taking 10 of the last 11 meets against South Carolina. The Gamecocks most recently saw Texas A&M in February, falling in a tight battle 11-7.

The Aggies head into the meet coming off a 13-5 loss to Auburn to round out the regular season. Texas A&M saw points from Gracie Casebolt and Keesa Leurs in Reining, Maggie Nealon and Brooke Brombach on the flat, and Kate Egan in Fences.
