No. 4 Seeded Equestrian Falls to No. 1 Aggies in SEC Semifinals

COLLEGE STATION, TX – The No. 6 ranked and fourth-seed Gamecock Equestrian team (7-7) put up a fight against the one-seed Texas A&M Aggies (9-3) on Friday, ultimately falling 14-6. South Carolina will face the second-seeded Georgia Bulldogs (8-5) in the Consolation meet on Saturday.

South Carolina started off in Reining, with the Aggies taking the first two available points. Chloe VanStone answered with her ride on Molly, defeating Mattie Gustin 69.83-69.17. Chloe Stephenson then rounded out the event with her own point, taking down Emmy Lu Marsh on Slash 71.5-70.67 and earning her third MOP of the season.

The meet continued on the Flat, with Texas A&M taking a 3-2 advantage in the event. The Gamecocks saw points from Natalie Jayne (82-79.67 on Bebe), and Sophie Mitchell. Mitchell defeated Brooke Brombach by nearly five points, 85-80.33 on Corvich.

The second half of the day began with Fences, where the Aggies took things 4-1. Sophomore Bella Primavera took the lone point for South Carolina, defeating Alexa Leong 87.33-84.33 on Campo. Primavera’s score was the highest of the day for the Gamecocks in the event.

In Horsemanship, South Carolina saw a point from fifth-year Kiersten Beckner after taking down Millie Landon by an impressive 10 points on Palmer, 72.17-62.17. Texas A&M took the remaining four points.
