Men’s Tennis Falls to No. 8 Tennessee

Knoxville, Tenn. – No. 20 South Carolina men’s tennis fell to No. 8 Tennessee in Knoxville on Sunday. The Gamecocks were again without their No. 2 man in Casey Hoole as he continued to be out due to injury.

In doubles play, the Gamecocks rolled with their same doubles lineup as they did against Georgia but the familiarity was not enough to help the team claim the point.

The Volunteers were able to claim two of the doubles matches with wins from the top two courts but not before the freshman pair of Sean Daryabeigi and Jelani Sarr recorded a 6-3 win at the No. 3 position.

In singles play, all the momentum stayed with the home team as the Volunteers took first sets on four courts. They were able to close out the match with wins on Courts 6, 2, and 5 to claim to victory.

At the top of the lineup No. 21 Toby Samuel split sets with No. 5 Johannus Monday and was up a break in the third set when play was suspended.

The men’s tennis team will return home to host Kentucky and Vanderbilt this Friday and Sunday. Friday’s match will begin at 5:00 p.m. with Sunday’s at noon.
