Freshman Bo Carpenter paced South Carolina in round one of the Baton Rouge Regional with an even par 72 Monday

BATON ROUGE, La. – South Carolina sits eighth and just three shots off the cutline after 18 holes of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional on Monday. The Gamecocks shot 293 (+5) at The University Club led by an even par 72 from freshman Bo Carpenter.

The Tifton, Ga., native was 3-over thru five after a triple at the par-4 14th hole but he battled back with birdies on five of his next six holes. He finished strong with a birdie at the par-4 ninth. Carpenter’s seven birdies the opening round tied for the field lead.

Redshirt sophomore Frankie Harris and junior Nathan Franks each shot 73 (+1). Harris made three birdies and Franks had two red numbers on his scorecard as he competed for the first time today since winning the Schenkel Invitational back on March 17. Sophomore Zach Adams made a couple birdies down the stretch as he turned in a 3-over 75 to be the final counting score. Sixth-year Lansdon Robbins shot 79 (+7).

Senior Rafe Reynolds will compete tomorrow for the Gamecocks as he’s been subbed in for Robbins for round two in the five-man spot.

No. 12 Virginia, the No. 2 seed this week in the Red Stick, shot 280 (-8) to open up a five-shot on top-ranked Auburn. The Cavaliers’ Deven Patel shot 67 (-5) and leads by a shot over LSU’s Connor Gaunt and Houston’s Wolfgang Glawe.

Carolina will be paired with Lipscomb again and No. 24 Oregon for round two on Tuesday. Reynolds will be the first player off for the Gamecocks at 8:55 a.m. (ET) on hole one. Golfstat will have live scoring again tomorrow for round two.
