Student-Athletes Extend 3.0 Streak to 35-Consecutive Semesters

Student-Athletes at the University of South Carolina ended the Spring 2024 semester with a departmental grade point average (GPA) of 3.37, it was announced today. This marks the department’s fourth-highest GPA on record and the 35th-consecutive semester with a departmental GPA above 3.0.

Beach Volleyball (3.71) earned the highest team GPA, followed closely by women’s golf (3.67) and women’s swimming (3.64). Overall, 17 of 18 teams earned a GPA of 3.0 or better during the fall semester.

The cumulative grade point average for all student-athletes in each sport since they have arrived at Carolina is 3.41, which stands as the third highest cumulative GPA ever for Gamecock student-athletes (Spring 2020 – 3.47; Fall 2023 – 3.42).

“Our student-athletes pursuit of excellence in the classroom and the playing fields and courts helps build their foundation for future success,” said Athletics Director Ray Tanner. “I am proud of their accomplishments and continuing success balancing academics and athletics pursuits.”

The dedication in the classroom of our student-athletes is shown by the end of semester results- said Charlie Ball, Associate Athletics Director – Academics. “The Dodie Academic Staff takes pride in providing a quality academic experience while assisting our student-athletes to complete their goal of graduation.”

The department named 86 student-athletes to the President’s List for earning a 4.0 GPA, 188 student-athletes to the Dean’s List (3.5) and 411 to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (3.0).

Gamecock student-athletes have led in the SEC Academic Honor Roll in seven of the last eight years, averaging 415 honor roll mentions each year since 2015-16.
