No. 3 Gamecocks 20th After R1 of NCAA Championship

CARLSBAD, Calif. – No.3 South Carolina sits 20^th on a bunched leaderboard after the opening 18 holes of the 2024 NCAA Championship. The Gamecocks shot 296 (+8) in the afternoon wave at Omni La Costa.

Junior All-American Louise Rydqvist continued on a roll as she paced Carolina with a 3-under 69. Rydqvist was bogey free most of her round leading the way with five birdies, including a stretch of 3-straight in her back nine.

Freshman Maylis Lamoure was steady in an impressive even par 72 in her NCAA Championship debut. She had four birdies with three coming on the back nine of her round.

Sophomore Mia Sandtorv Lussand shot 77 (+5). The Bergen, Norway, native played solid but just couldn’t get the putts to drop. Freshman Vairana Heck rebounded from a difficult 6-over front nine to shoot even par coming into the clubhouse. Heck went birdie-birdie at holes six and seven. Junior All-American Hannah Darling shot 84 (+12) with a pair of birdies on her scorecard.

The Gamecocks will be paired with No. 1 Stanford and No. 2 Wake Forest again in round two. Carolina’s first tee time will be at 9:40 a.m. (ET) at hole one. You can follow along live via Golfstat.
