Nine Gamecocks Set for U.S. Track & Field Olympic Trials

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina track and field is sending nine current and former student-athletes to the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, which will take place June 21-29 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Gamecock head coach Tim Hall will see four from his 2023-24 roster make their bid for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team – JaMessia Ford, Jayla Jamison, CJ Licata and Dylan Targgart. NBC will have full coverage of the Trials across its NBC, USA and Peacock platforms.

The five Gamecock alumni vying for positions are Josh Awotunde (2014-18), Quincy Hall (2019-20), Evan Miller (2019-23), Malik Paul (2019-21) and Chris Royster (2011-14).

Six of the nine Gamecocks will be in action in the evening session on Fri., June 21, with Hall and Miller in the men’s 400m first round heats set for 6:20 p.m. ET, Ford in the women’s 400m first round heats at 6:48 p.m. ET and Awotunde, Licata and Targgart battling it out in shot put qualifying at9:15 p.m. ET. Royster’s debut at the meet will come on Sat., June 22, in the 100m first round heats at 9:22 p.m. ET. Ford and Jamison will compete in the 200m first round heats Thu., June 27, at 8:51 p.m. ET, with Paul competing in discus qualifying at later that night at 9:45 p.m.

South Carolina track and field has sent 19 women, nine men to the Olympics in program history, including 15 who competed for the United States.
