Track and Field

Men’s 400 meters Semifinal
Quincy Hall moved into tomorrow’s 400 meters final, winning the first heat of the semifinal with a time of 43.95. That time was third overall between the three heats. Hall is one of three Americans that will compete in the final. The 400 meters final is scheduled for Wednesday at 3:20 p.m. on NBC.

Women’s 400 meters Repechage Round
Aliyah Abrams closed out her Olympic run with a 51.84 in the repechage round of the women’s 400 meters. Abrams was fifth in the first heat and 18th overall. She did not advance to the 400-meter semifinal.

Track and Field

Women’s 400 meters Round 1
Aliyah Abrams ran a season best 51.55 in heat 5 of round 1 of the women’s 400 meters Monday morning (August 5) in Paris. Abrams finished fifth in her heat and 27th overall. She will compete in the repechage round Tuesday morning (August 6) at 5:20 a.m. Eastern time.

Sunday, August 4

Track and Field

Men’s 400 meters Round 1
Quincy Hall moved into the semifinals of the 400 meters with ease, winning the fourth heat in Sunday’s round 1 with a time of 44.28. That time was second overall. The semifinals of the 400 meters are set for Tuesday (August 6) at 1:35 p.m. Eastern time.

Men’s 1500 meters Semifinal
Anass Essayi ran a personal best 3:32.49 in the semifinals of the 1500 meters on Sunday night (August 4), finishing seventh in heat 2 to fall one spot shy of Tuesday’s final. Essayi was ninth overall in time and cut almost four seconds of his round 1 time.

Basketball

United States 87, Germany 68
The United States women’s basketball team wrapped up pool play with an 87-68 win over Germany Sunday evening (August 4) in Villeneuve-d’Ascq. A’ja Wilson was 6-of-11 from the field, scoring 14 points on the night. She added three rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocked shots. The USA team moves on to quarterfinal play on Wednesday (August 7). The opponent and time will be announced later today.

Nigeria 79, Canada 70
Canada women’s basketball wrapped up its Olympic stay with a 79-70 loss to Nigeria on Sunday afternoon (August 4) in Villeneuve-d’Ascq. Laeticia Amihere had her best game in the Olympics, scoring seven points and grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds with a blocked shot in 13 minutes of play.  Canada did not advance to the quarterfinals of Olympic play.

Saturday, August 3

Soccer

Germany 0, Canada 0 (Germany wins shootout, 4-2)
Canada women’s soccer saw its Olympic games run end as Germany won a penalty-kick shootout, 4-2, after the two teams were scoreless after 120 minutes of play. Sabrina D’Angelo did not play in the match. Canada was a perfect 3-0 in group play before falling to Germany on Saturday in Marseille.

Friday, August 2

Track and Field

Men’s 1500 meters Round 1
Anass Essayi finished fourth in heat 1 of the 1500 meters round 1 on Friday morning (August 2) as track and field gets underway in the Olympic games. He finished with a time of 3:36.44. That mark gets Essayi into the semifinals, which will take place on Sunday (August 4) at 12:15 p.m. Eastern time.

Men’s Shot Put Qualification
Eric Favors, representing Ireland, finished 27th in the men’s shot put qualification on Friday night (August 2) in Paris. Favors’ best throw was his first of the night, checking in at 19.02 meters. Favors did not advance to tomorrow night’s final.

Thursday, August 1

Basketball

United States 87, Belgium 74
The United States women’s basketball team moved to 2-0 in Group C play with an 87-74 win over Belgium Thursday night (August 1) in Paris. A’ja Wilson had another outstanding performance with 23 points, 13 rebounds and three steals. The USA team will look to go unbeaten in pool play when they face Germany Sunday afternoon (August 4) at 11:15 a.m. Eastern time.

Australia 70, Canada 65
Canada women’s basketball dropped its Thursday afternoon (August 1) game to Australia, 70-65. The Canadians fall to 0-2 in the tournament. Laeticia Amihere had two rebounds and was 0-1 from the field in 1:52 of play. Canada plays its final game of group play on Sunday (August 4) against Nigeria at 7:30 a.m. Eastern time.

Swimming

Women’s 200-meter backstroke
Tatiana Salcutan competed in her second Olympic games, representing Moldova. Salcutan had the fastest time in the first heat and finished 23rd in the 200-meter backstroke heats with a time of 2:13.20. She did not advance to the semifinals.

Tomas Peribonio represented Ecuador in his second Olympic games. He competed in the fourth heat of the 200-meter IM and finished 19th overall with a time of 2:03.40. He did not advance to the semifinals.

Soccer

Canada 1, Columbia 0
Canada women’s soccer ended group play with a 1-0 win over Colombia on Wednesday night (July 31) in Paris. The Canadian team scored in the 61st minute to go 3-0 in Group A. Sabrina D’Angelo did not play in the win. Canada advances to the quarterfinals to face Germany on Saturday, August 3 at 1 p.m. Eastern time.

Tennis

No. 6 Casper Ruud (NOR) d. Francisco Cerundolo, 6-3, 6-4
Francisco Cerundolo’s Olympic tournament stay came to an end on Wednesday afternoon (July 31) in a 6-3, 6-4 loss to No. 6 Casper Ruud of Norway in the third round. Cerundolo defeated Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera of Chile and No. 10 Ugo Humbert in singles play and withdrew from doubles in his second career Olympics.

Monday, July 29

Basketball

United States 102, Japan 76
The United States women’s basketball team opened Group C play with a 102-76 win over Japan Monday night (July 29) in Paris. A’ja Wilson had a team-high 24 points and made it a double-double with 13 rebounds. Wilson was 10-of-16 from the field and had four assists and four blocked shots in the win. The American team will face Belgium in Group C play on Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. Eastern time.

France 75, Canada 54
Canada women’s basketball opened Olympic play with a 75-54 loss to host France on Monday afternoon (July 29). Laeticia Amihere played 2:19 in the first quarter. The Canadian team will face Australia on Thursday morning at 7:30 a.m. Eastern time to continue Group B play.

Tennis

Francisco Cerundolo (ARG) d. No. 10 Ugo Humbert (FRA), 7-5, 6-7 (5), 7-5
Francisco Cerundolo opened Monday (July 29) with a 7-5, 6-7 (5), 7-5 win over No. 10 seed Ugo Humbert in the second round of men’s singles play at Roland Garros.  He earned breaks to at the end of both the first and third sets to earn the upset. He now will face No. 6 seed Casper Ruud of Norway in the third round. Cerundolo pulled out of doubles play, which was scheduled to start on Monday.

Sunday, July 28

Soccer

Canada 2, France 1
Canada women’s soccer scored in stoppage time to defeat host France, 2-1, on Sunday night (July 28) in Group A play at the Olympics. Canada scored a goal in the 58th minute to tie the match, then scored 12 minutes into stoppage time to keep alive its hopes to advance to the quarterfinals. Sabrina D’Angelo did not play in the match. The Canadian team will wrap up Group A play on Wednesday, July 31 at 3 p.m. Eastern time, facing Colombia.

Tennis

Francisco Cerundolo (ARG) d. Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera (CHI), 6-2, 6-1
A day after winning an ATP Tour 250 event in Croatia, Francisco Cerundolo opened Olympic competition with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera of Chile in the first round of singles play. Cerundolo will face Ugo Humbert of France, the No. 10 overall seed, in the second round. Cerundolo also will team up with fellow Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry to face Robin Haase and Jean-Julien Rojer of the Netherlands in the first round of doubles play on Monday.

Thursday, July 25

Soccer

Canada 2, New Zealand 1
Canada women’s soccer opened Olympic play on Thursday (July 25) with a 2-1 win against New Zealand. Sabrina D’Angelo did not play in the contest. The Canadian team will next play host France on Sunday, July 28 at 3 p.m. Eastern time.
