South Carolina Announces 2024 Cross Country Schedule

COLUMBIA, S.C. (August 13, 2024) – South Carolina has officially announced the 2024 Cross Country slate on Tuesday, revealing the seven-meet slate.

“I am tremendously excited for the cross country season,” stated Head Coach Tim Hall. “Coach Brock has amassed a young group of talented freshmen to work alongside our returners. The schedule allows our young people the opportunity to develop race strategies prior to SEC competition. We can’t wait to see our team in action!”

South Carolina will compete in seven meets during the season, including a pair of events in the Palmetto State. The Gamecocks will open the season at the Covered Bridge Open in Boone, N.C. on Friday, Aug. 30 before returning to South Carolina for the Furman Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 14 in Greenville, S.C.

“I’m excited to get our year started with the schedule we have put together for our cross country student-athletes,” added Distance Coach Brock Moreaux. “We have a young group with a lot of local talent, so our schedule will allow us to get in a few quality races close to home, and then get into some larger competitive races in October at Louisville and Alabama. I am excited with where the momentum is with Gamecock Cross Country right now. We have a few key returners, but also a large young group that are eager to be competitive at the SEC level.”

The Gamecocks’ next two regular season meets will be the Live in Lou Classic on Saturday, Oct. 5 in Louisville, Ky. before heading to Tuscaloosa, Ala. for the Crimson Classic on Friday, Oct. 18.

South Carolina will then head west for the SEC Championship, this year hosted by Texas A&M on Friday, Nov. 1. The Gamecocks are coming off their first Top 10 finish at the SEC Championship since 2012, finishing eighth overall last season for the best team finish since 2001.

The Garnet & Black will continue postseason competition as they head to familiar territory for the NCAA Southeast Regional, hosted by Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C. on Friday, Nov. 15. This year’s NCAA Championship will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23 in Madison, Wisc.
