Katie Shea Collins Named SEC Offensive Player of the Week
BIRMINGHAM, AL – Rookie Katie Shea Collins has picked up her first career SEC honors, being tabbed the conference Offensive Player of the Week, as announced on Monday.
Collins had an incredible collegiate debut, scoring a hat-trick in 29 minutes on the field against Furman (Aug. 18), all in the first half. The three goals for Collins marked just the seventh time in program history, and she became the youngest Gamecock to do so since Jennie Ondo in the inaugural season of South Carolina women’s soccer (1996).
Her first goal of the match also came in just 34 seconds into play, marking the second-fastest goal in program history. Collins played a total of 50 minutes in her debut, helping the Gamecocks to a 5-1 victory over the Paladins in their season opener.
The team will be without Collins for a few games, as she travels to Colombia to train with the U.S. Under-20 Youth National Team in preparation for the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
The rest of the Gamecocks will face the College of Charleston at home on Sunday, Aug. 25 at 7:00 p.m.
