Cross Country Returns to Action in the Palmetto State
GREENVILLE, S.C. (Sept. 13, 2024) – After a season-opening win at the Covered Bridge Open, South Carolina Cross Country is back in action tomorrow at 9:15 a.m. when the team takes part in the Furman Invitational 6K in Greenville, S.C.

PARTICIPATING TEAMS
The Gamecocks will be one of 11 teams competing in Greenville this weekend, including host Furman who ranks 24th in the country and third in the Southeast Region. The Gamecocks will be one of five teams from the Palmetto State, joined by Furman as well as: Wofford, Charleston Southern and Southern Wesleyan. South Carolina will also square off against Western Carolina, Montreat and UNC Asheville for the second time in as many meets.
GAMECOCKS THIS FALL
South Carolina most recently won the Covered Bridge Open on Friday, Aug. 30 in Boone, N.C. as the Gamecocks claimed 16 points for the title. Teresa Cherotich led the charge for Carolina, picking up the solo win in her first cross country race of her collegiate career. Cherotich ran a 5K time of 17:16.14, the sixth fastest time in program history. Fellow freshman, Mary Frances Iseman turned in the 19th best time in program history at 17:47.47 to finish second overall in the meet. Anya Arroyo (17:51.46), Cate Conklin (17:58.90) and Emma Torbert (18:04.85) rounded out the scorers for the Garnet & Black, finishing third, fourth and sixth respectively.
South Carolina’s Elle Mehltretter will be making her collegiate debut this weekend, while 13 of the 18 runners will be running their first collegiate 6K events.
