CZ Sparkler ✨: Corrina Zullo and Cuyler Zulauf Score in 2-1 SEC Opening Win at Georgia

ATHENS, GA – South Carolina women’s soccer (4-0-4, 1-0-0) picked up a win and three points in a 2-1 victory of Georgia (4-3-2, 0-1-0) Thursday night to open up SEC play for the 2024 campaign. The win at the Turner Soccer Complex snapped a 10-game winning streak for the Bulldogs at home.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Bulldogs dominated possession in the opening minutes, but the Gamecocks turned up the heat at the 10-minute mark, taking three shots in the span of three seconds with the fourth connecting
  • Fifth-year Corinna Zullo had an incredible goal with the scurry in front of the net, scoring on a SportsCenter-worthy backward bicycle kick to sneak it past Georgia keeper Jordan Brown to put the Gamecocks up 1-0 early on
  • South Carolina’s defense was the main showing for the remainder of the first half, holding Georgia to just five total shots, with junior keeper Tina Tsaousis making saves on two
  • The Gamecocks kept things rolling opening up the second half as sophomore Cuyler Zulauf took advantage of a pass from fifth-year Brianna Behm and lasered a shot into the bottom left corner of the net in the 48th minute to extend the lead in Athens to 2-0
  • Georgia turned up the tempo, regaining possession and finding a goal of their own in the 55th minute to bring things within one
  • South Carolina held on, with Tsaousis making three more saves to keep her team ahead
  • Zullo’s goal was her third of the season, and the second for Zulauf
