Gamecocks Round Out Delaware Trip with Win Over Minnesota Crookston

FELTON, DE – The No. 7 Gamecocks (2-0) remained undefeated to open up the 2024-25 season after taking down Minnesota Crookston (0-1) 10-6 on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

The first half of the meet was neck and neck, with the Gamecocks and Golden Eagles tying 4-4 after the first two events. Fifth-year Alexa Aureliano picked up a point for South Carolina with an 84-78 win on Polo over Kaylynn Berry, while rookie Amira Kettaneh posted an 87 on Harley to take down Belle Syrett’s 82. Kettaneh’s 87 was the highest score of the event, earning her the first MOP of her career.

In Reining, newcomer Opal Fomish earned her first career point, defeating Samantha Lyons 69-63 on Aspen. Junior Mattie McNeill followed suit, taking down Madison Wachtel 68.5-66.5 to even out the event 2-2.

The Gamecocks picked up the second half in Horsemanship, with sophomore Julia Lee coming out swinging, posting a career-high 75.5 to win her point over Madison Wojcek’s 71. Freshman Samantha Cichos then edged out Ava Glenn 73.5-73 on Cinch, but the Golden Eagles took the next two points to bring the meet back to a tie, 6-6.

The Flat crew saved the day for South Carolina, shutting out Minnesota Crookston 4-0 to take the meet. Senior Sophie Mitchell got things started with a 73-50 win against Berry, while Mary Hunter Millet earned her second point of the weekend with a massive 83-54 takedown of Alexandra Wentland on Patton. Millet finished the first two meets with a 24.5 win margin over her opponents.

Sophomore Sarah Rabb grabbed the next point, with her 18-point 88-70 win on Carl over Syrett, earning her the first MOP of her career. Natalie Jayne completed the sweep, scoring an 87 on Cici to defeat Kogen’s 53.

The Gamecocks will host SEC foe Auburn for the first home meet of the season on Friday, Oct. 11 at One Wood Farm.
