Hamner Wraps Up Play at ITA All-Americans
CARY, N.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis senior Sarah Hamner saw her bid to repeat her 2021 singles title at ITA All-American Championships end in the round of 16.
After opening the tournament with a pair of top-45 victories, the eighth-seeded Hamner drew Stanford’s Valeria Glozman in the round of 16. The two played a back-and-forth first set that No. 69 Glozman pulled out with a late break, and she carried that momentum into an earlier break in the second set to close out the 7-5, 6-4 victory and move on in the tournament.
In the consolation bracket, Hamner drew No. 1 Mary Stoiana, who had been upset in straight sets in the second round of the main draw. The Texas A&M senior had bounced back with a pair of wins to continue in the consolation bracket where she topped Hamner 6-1, 6-3.
Hamner the rest of the Gamecocks will regroup and prepare for the ITA Carolina Regionals set for Oct. 17-22 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Under the new format for NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, the two singles finalists and the doubles champion from each ITA Regional will qualify for the NCAA bracket.
