Edwards Leads the Way in 106-63 Exhibition Win Over Memphis

MEMPHIS, TN – South Carolina women’s basketball was on display Tuesday night against Memphis, defeating the Tigers 106-63 in a preseason exhibition as part of the inaugural Hoops for St. Jude® Tip Off Classic at FedExForum.

Fans saw newcomer Joyce Edwards make her Gamecock debut, leading the way early on after posting a double-double in the first half in just 11 minutes on the court. Senior Te-Hina Paopao was close behind, netting eight points with back-to-back threes to help South Carolina open the first quarter on a 10-0 run.

Edwards finished with a team-high 19 points and 12 boards, while junior Chloe Kitts added her own double-double after ending the night with 15 points and grabbing a team-high 13 rebounds.

Sophomore MiLaysia Fulwiley was the Gamecocks’ fourth scorer to end in double-digits, dishing out two assists along the way. Bree Hall and Raven Johnson each handed out a team-high four assists, with Johnson additionally grabbing seven boards.

South Carolina ended the night shooting 53% (41-for-78) from the field, and sinking in three threes, one of which coming from a new face in Maryam Dauda. The Gamecocks were efficient at the free throw line, finishing 21-for-25 (84.0%), and out-rebounded the Tigers 58-25.
